Earlier this year, the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) announced that their Fashion Talks series would be honoring three New York-based female designers who have shaped the way women dress: Donna Karan, Catherine Malandrino, and Diane von Furstenberg.  The Fashion Talks are led by my friend Pamela Golbin, chief curator of Paris’s Museum of Fashion and Textiles, who I last saw at Roger Vivier back in early February.  Time flies!  I was able to make it to Diane von Furstenberg’s event earlier this week, and it was a compelling glimpse into her career and design inspiration.

Dita Von Teese and Her Crazy Horse Costumes …

After a sold-out two week run in February, Dita Von Teese returns to the stage of the Crazy Horse for another two week stint between March 16th to 27th.  She’s the first guest star in the history of the famed Parisian nightclub.  Dita has brought the sensuality of burlesque back into mainstream, but she also happens to look spectacular fully-clothed!  I’ve seen her at the Haute Couture shows in the past, and she is always dressed to the nines.

Bill Cunningham is Everywhere

In his On The Street column in this weekend’s Style section of The New York Times, famous roving photographer Bill Cunningham highlights “A Show of Legs in Paris.”  Mr. Cunningham took to the streets of Paris during the prêt-à-porter shows earlier this month and found that “the look in Paris on the thousands of women gathered for the recent designer shows was all about legs and their coverings.”

Nominees for 2009 CFDA Awards Are Announced

cfda_logoWWD.com has listed the 2009 award nominations from the Council of Fashion Designers of AmericaMarc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, and sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte have been nominated for the 2009 Womenswear Designer of the Year award.  Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo Zucchelli, Michael Bastian and Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders are the nominees for Menswear.  The awards, scheduled for June 15 at Lincoln Center’s revamped Alice Tully Hall, will also honor Marc Jacobs with the International Award for his work at Louis Vuitton, and Anna Sui will be given the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.  Click here to read further details.
