Susan Tabak Chic Resort Europe

While American designers stuck to more traditional shapes and colors, the Europeans ventured further afield and helped to redefine what Resort dressing could be, and for them, it wasn’t all just a day at the beach, but something more exciting and vital. In fact, many of the clothes would fit smartly into a wardrobe and could be worn throughout the year with or without a sandy beach and palm tree readily hand.

Here’s a look at some of the best of the European shows:

Susan Tabak Chic Resort USA

Some people associate the Resort season with designer beach towels and lounge wear for poolside relaxation, but in truth it has actually become an increasingly important in-between season not only for the designers but also for fashionable women who crave a constant stream of new ensembles and accessories. These are the clothes to sport when it isn’t quite chilly or quite hot. Designers ranging from high end to cheaper down-town chic have started showing collections for Resort, some with only a hand-full of looks, but just enough ingenuity to capture their customer’s hearts and bring them shopping for off-season staples. Here is a compilation of some of the best Resort looks from designers based on this side of the Atlantic. Enjoy!

Susan Tabak’s Chic Father’s Day

Father’s day is this Sunday so it is only fitting to provide you with a guide to some last-minute finds that will make chic gifts for any father.

Tom Ford’s name is synonymous with luxury and his cologne is a fittingly heady, masculine scent that I just adore. It is faintly sweet and light, but not feminine. With notes of basil, Leatherwood, Violet leaves and Tobacco leaves in the bottle, any man would feel more luxurious and powerful by spritzing this on. It is available at Saks and other fine department stores, but head over to the boutique on Madison Avenue if you’re interested in also sampling the designer’s Private Collection of higher-end fragrances (and Ford’s velvet loafers).

Sex and the City Style

It’s been a week since one of the most exciting films of the summer hit the big screen and shattered box office expectations. The ladies of Sex and the City are back in a big way, and so too are their signature looks. From Miranda’s boardroom chic to Samantha’s glitzy sex-appeal, Patricia Field still knows how to perfectly style these characters. However, while all the women are well-loved, it’s Carrie and her obsession with shoes and all things fashion that has the most rapturous following. Without Sarah Jessica Parker and Pat Field, it’s doubtful Manolo Blahnik would be a household name. As soon as Sarah Jessica Parker stepped onto the screen in a custom tailored vintage white gown and black Dior gladiators, the audience burst into applause. It was official: the joy the show had given to women of all walks of life had not faded but was still very much alive and ready to thrill the masses yet again.

Remembering Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent, a designer whom I, as well as many in the fashion community, esteemed as one of the most pivotal fashion designers in the last century, passed away this past Sunday. From his early days in the industry designing under the House of Dior to founding his eponymous fashion house in 1962, Saint Laurent not only pursued what was next in fashion, but what was next for women. His work embodied a contemporary spirit that complemented the social progression of the 20th-century woman.
